Hello and welcome!

It is my pleasure to present my work to you and thanks for taking an interest. I hope you gain something of value from it.

My aim here might not be what you expect, my first request of you is that you have an "Open Mind". I know that we all like to think we have an open mind, many of us pride ourselves on our open mind but the reality is usually quite different. We are all coloured by our upbringing, the society we live in, our personal likes and dislikes etc. and so a truly open mind is rare and beautiful thing indeed but give it a go ;-)



My view of the role of an artist is:

• To experience & perceive beauty and then communicate that beauty through Art
• To be a teacher and leader in the community through inspiration & example
  
• Be a fountainhead of creative energy.

When I use the word "teacher" I don't mean it in a conventional way, like giving someone instructions, rather a teacher should open you up to an approach that you explore alone. I intend to present an approach to creativity that can be applied to anything. It is more about a "state of being" than some methodology that puts you in a cage. That "state of being" is freedom in its truest sense. This approach is not a list of tenets or or formulae, that would set up an authority and you cannot be free when you have something or someone that tells you what is the "right" thing to do.

When I use the word "example" I don't mean it in a moralistic sense, rather it has to do with spirit. Creativity is spirit in full and unobstructed flow. That flow is governed by passion and passion is created by sorrow and driven by love which will inevitably produce beauty. All people are creative but most are creatively destructive. Constructive creativity builds and its output is beauty.

Beauty is an expression of love and to be love is to be courageous. The heart is where courage comes from - as does beauty, passion, intuition along with all those highest human traits and values that we wish we were.

So it would seem that functioning through the heart is the key to creativity. We have to be careful here, we are not talking about some ecstatic state which is a denial of reality, quite the reverse, reality is beauty is Joy. It cannot be a piece of mind candy that will lose its taste. It must be real and unshakable. When we are in a state of joy we are playful, inquisitive and spontaneous. This is the state that creativity can function in. This is the natural state of being for humanity, alas it is the one least often seen.
