The Arts

Franz Marc

Franz Marc

I have been deeply touched by the work of Franz Marc and in many ways have sought to rise to his level of work. He remains a large influence on how I approach art. I have never seen any of his work that has not had an impact, and love is the deep rooted expression of his work.

His collaboration with Wassily Kandinski brought about the great Almanac "Der Blaue Reiter" and I am not one for reading much about art and what it is unless it has been written by an artist. "Der Blaue Reiter" delivers the goods and well worth a read for anyone developing as an artist.

There are many resources on the Internet pertaining to Franz Marc, here is a Google search for info about him.

Nicolai Roerich

This is a painter who's work is breath taking. He was more than a painter, his Pax Cultura was adopted by the league of nations and the list of people and institutions who honoured him is impressive. Without doubt one of the major artists of all time and sadly not so well known in the western world.

Here is what Einstein wrote to him:
I admire sincerely by Your art so much that I can say without exaggeration that never have landscapes made such a great impression on me.
– Albert Einstein (Letter to Roerich Museum, 1931)

Quite a few sites deal with Roerich and his work and I guess Wikipedia is a good place to start.

Florian Fricke/Popol Vuh

The Fricke Family

I had the good fortune to get to know Florian Fricke in the years leading up to his death. I still miss him very much! I learnt a great deal from him about music and yet we rarely discussed it. This was acieved by listening to birdsong in the garden of his home in Miesbach, Bavaria.

Florian was one of the first musicians to use a Moog Synthesizer but later returned to using piano as his main tool for musical expression. He wrote much of the music for Werner Herzogs early films and made a number of films himself. You can read about Florian here.

The Zutons

If I ever wanted to be in a band I would want it to be "The Zutons". I have come to know Dave McCabe over the past few years and what I meet is what I hear in the music. Without doubt one of the best bands to have come from Liverpool. Grab yourself some Zuton Fever here.

Politics & Economics

Dennis Kucinich

Dennis & Elizabeth

I am not an American but if I was I would work for Dennis Kucinich. He is one the bravest politicians in the world! I am thoroughly impressed with him and like everyone else I have very little time for politicians. Dennis is a rare exception in a miserable field of human endeavour.

His wife Elizabeth is also a person with the same level of commitment and dedication to the cause of betterment for all.

I firmly believe that for the world to change it must first happen in America. Dennis is one of the few with a clear vision of how that could come about. Visit his site to learn more and if you are an American please consider supporting him.

Raj Patel

Raj Patel is an activist and campaigner. I lifted the following from his site:

Raj Patel

"Raj Patel is an award-winning writer, activist and academic. He has degrees from the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics and Cornell University, has worked for the World Bank and WTO, and protested against them around the world. He’s currently a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley’s Center for African Studies, an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Development Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a fellow at The Institute for Food and Development Policy, also known as Food First. He has testified about the causes of the global food crisis to the US House Financial Services Committee and is an Advisor to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food. His first book was Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System and his latest, The Value of Nothing, is a New York Times best-seller."

Visit Raj's site for more info.

Spirituality

A difficult subject to share with others! There are many aproaches to a persons develoment into a full and potent human being. I am not a "religious" person but have been a student of what are collectively known as the Ageless Wisdom Teachings for some 20+ years. Here are some links that cover that subject.

Helena Blavatsky the author of Isis Unveiled Vol. I & II, The Secret Doctrine Vol. I & II.
Alice Bailey was the amanuensis of the Tibetan Master Dwahl Kuhl.
Helena Roerich author of the Agni Yoga books.
A comprehensive site of all works, major and minor, covering the "Ageless Wisdom".

And finally, Share International magazine from Benjamin Creme.
Highly controversial indeed! I have known the story that Mr. Creme has told about Maitreya for about 14 years and in that time I have had many incredible experiences that lead me to the conclusion that what he says is true.
